What is a rear-view monitor?

A rear view monitor is a display screen used to monitor what's behind the vehicle for safe driving. Rearview monitors also come in different screen sizes, 5 inches or 7 inches, with image ratios of 4:3 or 16:9.

Car rearview monitors are often used with a backup camera or reversing camera, which is a safety electronic device installed on the vehicle to help the driver see clearly behind when reversing or parking.

A reversing camera kit consists of a rear view camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle and a rear view monitor mounted on the dashboard or rearview mirror.

When the driver reversing, the camera sends live video to the rear view monitor screen, allowing the driver to clearly see what's behind the vehicle. Rearview mirror monitors can help prevent accidents and

make parking easier in blind spots or tight spaces.

Rearview monitors are becoming more common in heavy duty vehicles or new vehicles, and in some countries, vehicles such as commercial trucks and buses are required by law to be equipped with rearview monitors.
